Will using the windows 7 recovery disks to reformat and install windows 7 on it cause any problems with my desktop? Some people have been telling me the bios might get messed up, but idk. What do you think?

A recovery disk isn’t an install disk, it won’t do anything on a computer that doesn’t have Windows 7 already installed. (And if you don’t have an *unused* activation key to use on that computer, the installation would stop running in 30 days even if you could do the installation.)

call gateway directly from your phone and talk to a customer service person and ask them to send you a recovery disk and they should send you one all you need to do is give them your home address

Yes you can if it’s not so old that it’s no longer supported. You’ll need to have the model number an then go to the hp order page here:

You have to order them online and they send them to you in about a week through regular mail .They’ll cost you around $ 15.

If you are running windows vista there is an option to create a recovery disc. Thats what mine has. Otherwise if you have to order a recovery disc it will run you around 200. dollars

You don’t need to delete anything. Backing up is the critical part. You can use a back program, or just drag and drop files onto a USB stick, external drive, DVD-R, or other media.

In addition to personal data, you need to have your applications that didn’t come with the computer (e.g., MS Office) on disc (or other media) & ready to reinstall after the recovery.

Hello Zachary,

If you don’t have your original Vista CD you will need to purchase the full version of Windows 7 (not the upgrade) to install- if you did have Vista you would want to reinstall Vista before upgrading. Upgrading requires a previous Windows OS.
