System says I am running out of space in recovery D. Its almost completely in the red!
Just leave it as is. Don’t remove anything from that recovery partition. You shouldn’t even be storing anything to it. Your computer depends on it.
You should only delete it if you have already created a bootable DVD or USB flash drive and copied the recovery files to it. Otherwise, you will have to buy a copy from your dealer once you need to restore your operating system.
I lost (somehow completely deleted -from the recycling bin too) my 2009 photos folder. All holidays, trips, and birth of my son….gone! I downloaded some free file recovery software and ran it. It recovered about 30% of my photos. I was going to buy DT Utilities Digital Rescue Premium. Will it do a better job or are all file recovery programs the same?
It all depends on what has happened since the files were deleted.
When you delete files the data itself isn’t deleted, just the index entry that tells the system where the data for those files is located. The area containing the deleted data is also now marked as free space so it is available for any new files to be written there instead.
If and when that happens, then it is too late to recover your deleted files so it is very, very important to not save any new files or data to the device concerned.
One of the easiest ways to see if you can recover deleted files is to try some good file recovery software.
A good tip is to try the free demo version of a commercial product that will scan the device for deleted files and show you exactly what files can be recovered. At least that will show you if you can recover the deleted files or if it’s too late already. You can find more useful information on how to recover deleted files at
http://www.asoftech.com/apr/
can files be repair if I get it from the recovery.
This tool can help you to recover your files from damaged media.

and they charge so much…
When you delete files, the computer does not actually erase the file from your hard drive, it just makes the space where that file is stored as available.
A good example is to think a drive as a large book with a table of contents that lists each page and what’s on each page. To find a file, it has to look up the file in the table of contents and then go to that page to find the file. Large files can take up multiple pages and not in order, so the table of contents tells you where to find all the parts to that file. (BTW that’s why you want to "defrag" your hard drive regularly. Defragmentation software will reorganize your hard drive storage so all the multi-part files are put together instead of fragmented out of sequence. For example, if a file is on pages 5, 10, 15 of a book, defragging will restructure it so it’s on pages 5, 6, 7.)
Now when you delete a file, you do not delete the file off those pages. It’s only deleting the table of contents entry making those pages available for a new file, but the file contents itself is still on those page until a new file writes over it.
So until that happens, undelete software can do a physical scan of the drive to look for file contents that are not listed on the table of contents and restore your file. You can get undelete software, like recuva which is even free. But they usually can only restore complete files that are intact. Other high-tech agencies have better reconstruction software that can restore partial files.
A very angry security guard made me delete some photographs I took. I managed to recover some of them using a free programme from the internet, but two only appear as corrupted files and the remaining two don’t show up at all. Would this mean they’re gone forever?
It is possible but if you have already tried with a decent programme then it is doubtful.
next time this happens DO NOT delete any pictures. You cannot be forced to do so and for a security guard or even the police to do so would constitute assault.
I forgot my user password and I need to access my files ASAP. Where can I download the Password recovery Image file (preferably iso or nrg)? I use XP SP3.
Ok. Aren’t there any free recovery programs available for download on the internet? You know, the kind that I don’t need to pay for but offering full functionality?
With Windows Password Unlocker, you can reset windows password in a few steps.
1.Download Windows Password Unlocker from Password Unlocker Official site.
2.Decompress the Windows password unlocker and note that there is an .ISO image file. Burn the image file onto an blank CD with the burner freely supported by Password Unlocker.
3.Insert the newly created CD into the locked computer and re-boot it from the CD drive.
4.After launched the CD, a window pop up with all your account names(if you have several accounts); select one of the accounts that you have forgotten its password to reset it. Just one press, you have removed the password.
you can get the password recovry image file from password unlocker official site.
I need two specific files from my flash drive, but they are missing now. In fact, the entire folder has disappeared. My file recovery application will not run on this drive all of a sudden, but it works great on other drives. There is not signature of file-shredding either. The files were created last week, and I need them with in 18 hours from now.
I have Recuva.
You don’t mention the name of your file recovery prog.
Have you tried the free ‘Recuva’

EDIT
Saw your ‘additional details’ so PM’d you, but past your deadline I think.
I have the emachines xp home recovery cd file saved to my computer but I don’t know how to burn it to cd to where when I run it in the computer before it boots up, it’ll run. How can I burn it successfully so as soon as I turn the computer on and put in the cd, it’ll run?
www.imgburn.com
If so, does it show the dates of the files deleted?
No. Recuva shows filename, path, last modified, size, state and comment.
