How to delete hard drive without recovery disk?

January 202010

I have a dell laptop. It has become completely infected with a virus. I know the hard drive is infected because it has shut down administrator and keeps showing warning that system 32 is not usable. I would like to completely wipe out my hard drive bringing it back to factory status but I don’t have the restore disk. Is this something I can do without the disk? If so, how? Thanks!
I don’t have the recovery disk for the laptop and I don’t have any for any of the other computers as well. Never got one with them.

Step 1 Save backup copies of any existing data you still need to an external device such as a DVD-RW or USB drive.

Step 2 Insert the recovery disk that came with your computer into the disk drive. Restart the computer and wait for the recovery disk boot screen to appear.

Step 3 Press "Enter" and then click "F8" to accept the Microsoft license agreement. Press the "Escape" key if a window appears asking if you want to repair your operating system.

Step 4 Press the down arrow key to highlight any of the partitions listed in the text menu. Press the "D" key to delete the partition. Repeat the process with any remaining partitions listed in the menu.

Step 5 Press "Enter" and then highlight the "NTFS" option. Press "Enter" again. Choose the language you want to use for the installation instructions from the drop-down menu and then click "Next."

Step 6 Continue clicking "Next" at each screen to erase the contents of the computer’s hard drive and reinstall the operating system.

Can someone suggest a hard disk recovery software for my laptop which has been reformatted already? Thanks!!!!?

Is it possible? The said files that I wanted to recover were infested with some virus so my laptop had to be reformatted. If ever the said files were recovered, will it still have the virus? Thanks

I(f yopu have reformatted and reinstalled your laptop then it is very unlikely that anyone other than an expert could recover your files. You can try this but as I say I am doubtful. Go to download .com and get a program called PC Inspector. This can sometimes recover deleted files. Good Luck

Question regarding keeping the free space at the end of hard disk for recovery purpose?

December 122009

Some motherboard manufacturer advise to keep some free space at the end of hard disk for recovery of OS/Data I do not know whether it is advised by the motherboard manufacturer only or otherwise it is also recommended as a general. My question is how much space to keep free and whether it is to be kept as a partitioned or un-partitioned space.

the free space is normally kept as a D: partition (assuming that your regular hard drive partition is C:)

Most computer makers now put the recovery partition on the drive nowadays.

I would make a D: partition just big enough to place an image of your Operating system and essential files on it.

Can I change a hard drive of the laptop and use the recovery disk to install windows.?

November 122009

My hard drive of the laptop is broken, I bought a new one and put in.
The problem is that I don’t have Operating System (Windows)
Can I use the recovery disk (I bought the laptop, and it includes the recovery disk) to reinstall the "windows?"

Or is there any other way to install windows?
So, for ex: before the hard drive is 40 G , after it broke, I change a 60 G hard drive.

Then, I still can use the recovery disk to instsall Winsows? is that right?

Or, I only can use the totally same Hard drive?

This depends on the recovery disk. Some recovery disks only fix certain problems, and some install everything as it was when you bought your computer. I’m assuming that this is the case, so yes, you probably can install windows with that recovery disk, just put it inside you cd/dvd drive and start the laptop and the install will begin automatically(usually).

edit:
Exact same hard drive would ofcourse be better, but it probably works on your 60gb hard drive as well(because hard drive does not need any special drivers), just dont change any other parts.

Put OS on new hard drive with recovery disk?

November 92009

My hard drive on my laptop just died on me. i have recovery disks that came with it, and i was wondering if when i buy a new hard drive, if the disks would reinstall windows on the new drive. i have a toshiba sattelite a135 s4677. i was thinking about upgrading anyway but this just sped up the process

Yes, when you use the recovery CD with the new Harddisk, it will reinstall windows to the point where you bought it.
So all necessary drivers and included programs will be reinstalled.
But make sure you buy a compatible HD to your notebook.

Upgrading a notebook is mostly ony possible for RAM. You can check the manufacturers homepage. It should give you informations about the upgradability of your model.
