Portfolio Recoveries is a bottom=feeder of a collection agency that is trying to force me to pay on a debt after the statue of limitation has passed. This repo bill came way out of left field meanign aI did not know it exist. But it has been over 10 years. Any suggestions? I do not want to turn back the clock on this and these scum bags have now raided my credit report.

"But it has been over 10 years" They can legally try to collect forever. The SOL has passed for them to sue and win (you still have to show up in court). The time period has also expired for them to report to the credit bureaus. This takes away any power they have to encourage you to pay.

Dispute the negative entry with the reporting agencies.. Send the collector a certified letter with return receipt stating that this is not your debt, it is too old to report even if it was your debt per the FCRA and to cease contact about this alleged debt as is your right per the FDCPA. If they don’t comply, file a complaint with the FTC and try to recover the penalties.

BTW: I wouldn’t pay a dime on a debt over 10 years old.

My computer has 2 750GB hard drives in RAID 0. When I went to start it up today, it says that an error has occurred beside one of the disks. It says it it still bootable, but I can’t get the PC to start Windows. Should I just do system recovery and re-install the operating system? What would happen if I used the remove RAID 0 option?

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!
Thanks, If I remove raid 0, will it delete my HP recovery partition?

No matter what you do you are going to lose all your files, documents and your OS….After that you would have to build the array again and do a clean install of your OS and all your programs etc….Running raid 1 (mirrored drives)is much safer, but you lose the performance of raid0….

update—-Yes you will lose the partition also…Anything you had on those 2 drives will be wiped out once you break the array down…..

You will have to start all over again….

I recently had an issue with one of my hard drives in RAID 0, so I had to order recovery discs from HP and reinstall the operating system. I just finished running the discs, and everything seemed to have completed successfully. After finishing, it instructed me to reboot the computer. When it loaded back up, it didn’t boot windows, just opened a blue HP screen, opened command prompt and started running some codes. After this, it went to a plain yellow screen and shows two little folders with files going across. This screen has been up for about an hour, and I’m starting to get worried. Should I just wait it out? Could a bad hard drive have caused the RAID failure, then somehow survived the recovery and is now causing issues? If that’s the case how do I know which hard drive is bad?

Any suggestions would be extremely helpful.

Thanks!

wait when it finishes, because it installs a lot of HP crap on your computer and you can not stop it.
just wait.
good luck

My friend has a Dell Dimension 8400 Desktop computer and he was having some random electrical problems. The computer has two hard drives running a RAID 1 array (software not hardware). The HDD’s use SATA cables. Long story short, I got a similar dell power supply and replaced the bad one with the good one to make sure its the PSU, which solved the original problem.

However, when I was cabling the new power supply I did not notice that the SATA cable for the 2nd hard drive came loose from its connection to the motherboard. I booted it up and his Intel Raid Utility freaked out and messed up the array. The disk was labeled as a non-raid member disk. I could not boot into windows. This is the problem I have now.

I did some searching around a found a posting with an email from an Intel support tech that gave me some step by step directions. Following the directions, I used the array utility to remove the RAID array. Both disk are now listed as non-member disks. After a reboot, I got a error saying "Bad PBR". Did some searching on that, and it turns out to be a messed up boot record, which makes sense to me. I used the recovery disk to repair it from command prompt (FIXBOOT). It could not find any installation, so I used FIXMBR in stead. Now, after a reboot, I get a different error saying "Error Loading Operating System."
This is where I am at now. Should I re-create the RAID array using the utility? What should I do?

Both disks are listed as 150 GB. I don’t think the data was erased, but I am stuck. Any ideas/suggestions that avoid data loss would be helpful. Thanks!

1. you are right that data was erased.reinstall the operating system and then use data recovery softwa to get back lost data on your hard drive. here you can download one: http://www.disk-utilities.com/system-restore/

2. How to avoid data loss?First, backup the important data is relly important, but sometimes you may forget to do that. I know a really good software named Wondershare Time Shuttle, it can protect your operating system from virus, data loss, etc. It can creat over 1000 snapshots, if you suffer from computer crash like what you experienced, you can restore your system and data from snapshots. what’s more, there snapshots won’t take too much space of your hard drive. You can download a trial version here, http://www.disk-utilities.com/system-restore/ , you should notice that it’s a little complicated to install it, so, if you want to install it and have a try, you’d better comply with the user-guide article.

Good luck.

I have on my server 2 x 1000GB Seagate hard drives connected to a raid controller, which means both have the same data. One day they both stopped working. both have the same damage.
I need to recover the data is very important! I usually use a data recovery program but in this case is difficult because i’m not able to c the drives, I can only c them on Device manager for less than 5 minutes.
Please i need a solution.
Thanks

Hi
so it did-not occur to you to buy a third and forth drives for when one drive failed then.
raid systems usually use a hot swap able drives for redundancy.
the case of a little knowledge being a dangerous thing didn’t spring to mind then.
Copying the contents of those drives should have been paramount to a systems manager.
if employed by a company dismissal would be immediate.
so sadly you have lost something it could just be the power supply…if it is you are lucky.
but if both have failed, what can one say…………………………….?
there is another old saying in the computer world and it is this ITS NOT A CASE IF IT WILL FAIL BUT WHEN.

But unfortunately I lost some data. I can’t even find it in my backup. I think it’s still in that malfunctioning hard drive.

When I put the "bad" hard drive into a docking bay and hook it up to my computer, the computer will recognize it. But it says do you want to format the disk? Of course I have not.

The disk is still usable, but has no operating system. Are there any ways for me to recover data from that disk? How do I find out if there’s still even data on the disk?

Any help or suggestions are welcomed.

Maybe there was something wrong with your partition table. You can try to fix it.I know a software named wondershare data recovery which has the function of patition recovery. Hope u can get your datas !

My old desktop died a few months ago as a capacitor blew on the motherboard. Unfortunately I had a raid 0 set-up for my data and can no longer access that data. I’ve tried various USB to sata connections and recovery software to no avail.

I want to resurrect this machine in order to access those drives but I am having difficulty sourcing the original motherboard (MSI 865PE Neo2-PFISR.) My only option has been ordering one off of ebay from China for $130.

However I am finding other socket 478 (with the ICH5/ICH5R raid chip) boards on ebay for much less and from US sellers. For instance the Asus P4P800-MX Socket 478 MotherBoard 865/865GV.

My question is; Will my computer boot with a different motherboard considering most if not all the specs are the same as the originial (478, ICH5/ICH5R, etc.?) And will the raid drives work?

Thanks!
-Lee

I would get the exact motherboard that you had before.

A different motherboard may have a different BIOS that does not recognize your HDDs for RAID.

Also, might I suggest you get an external USB HDD to backup your stuff.
