I have a mini sd chip that I use in my phone and has mysteriously become corrupted and says I need to format it. Now, to get the information, I have downloaded the Icare software, which is a recovery software, how do I know what the drive is for it? And is there something better I could to to recover it? Any information is greatly appreciated.

When you connect your sd chip to computer, you will see it shown as a drive letter in ‘My Computer’. That’s the drive letter.

For recovery software, a popular one is asoftech photo recovery, people used to use it to recover pictures, song, videos, documents, and other deleted files. You can get it from

A few years ago I deleted photos from a time in my life that I THOUGHT I wanted to forget. Now that I’m a little older, it would be nice to have photos to remember that time in my life. I’m thinking about buying a software recovery program but I’m not sure how far back they typically go on my hard drive. Any advice?
Update:
The data recovery software worked like a charm. I ended up using File Scavenger and was able to find my old files…plus many, many more! Thanks.

Physical time has nothing to do with it. It all depends on if the space those pix were on have been over-written or not.
When you delete something it is kind of pushed aside by the hard drive until that space is needed again, then it gets over-written by other data. You might try a free recovery software first. Here’s a link you can check out for recovery software.

Someone I know just lost all of their pictures and music after a formatting their computer (they had a virus). What is the very best software to get pictures and music back after a format and a fresh install of Windows 7??? It does not have to be free, or fast, we just need it to get all of the pictures and music back. Thank you!!
Thank you for the fast answers!! I will look into both. Does anyone else have any experience with some of the recovery software?

You will need to recover the data using something like asoftech photo recovery. http://www.asoftech.com/apr/

I’ve had to use it many times in the past but it will require that you plug that drive into another system as a slave and run the software from there. It will rebuild the drive and hopefully recover the pst file. There are no guarantees but i think the software will work for free until the stage that you want to recover. So at least you will know if it will work or not before you spend any money.

Good luck.

What is the most Powerful and the most extensive Video file recovery software for Mac? I need such a software to recover video files like Quick time movie, FCP, DVD Studio Pro etc. from a Lacie 250 GB Hard Disc which was formatted for PC by mistake?

File recovery is file recovery, there is no specific "video recovery" program.

I have used Data Rescue it works really well for recovering files. http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/system_disk_utilities/datarescue3.html

@Chris
Yes, with reformatting, the original file log/addresses are deleted. Data rescue can recover a limited amount of files by looking at the bytes left on the disk, unless the reformat overwrote the entire disk with zeros. So Data rescue will still work, it just will not be able to recover every kind of file.
