How do I restore data after an Operating system restore?

I restored my operating system using my Gateway Operating system Disc using the save data option. I have my Back up file but cannot restore my documents in the Owner files. I cansee the files, they show the size of disc space but I get "Access Denied Message when I try to open the documents.
