PS3 Recovery Mode
1.Restart System
(reboots console)
2.Restore Default Settings
(Restores ALL PS3 settings time,music,network connection ect.
NOTICE : this does delete profile sign in information Email and passwords but activations for downloaded content remains.
3.Restore File System (Restores the PS3’s File system aka firmware data)
4.Rebuild Database (Restores the PS3’s Database Pics,Music,Video and games directory’s, File names are returned to default)
5.Restore PS3 System (Basically all of the above and Formats the HDD Restores everything to Default)
6.System Update (Update the PS3’s firmware or reflash the current firmware)

The PS3’s recovery mode was found a few months ago on accident and has been big new to the PS3 community it was most likely added by Sony as a quick fix for broken/bricked PS3’s and would have come very handy in the hole 2.40 brick plague and is probably the most logical reason why Sony decided to add this hidden feature.

i had a problem similar to this a while ago unfortunately the only perfect way to fix it is to replace the bluray drive i tried cleanin it originally lasted bout a month n then wudnt read again, pick one up on ebay i got one for £72 and try to get the serial number of the drive to match ur ps3 but im pretty sure they arent region locked n e ways so u shud b ok all i did woz take the little motherboard on the old bluray attached it to the new one n fitted it and its been working fine to date

i’ve cleaned my blu ray, restored hdd i phoned the sony helpline and they said to take out the power supply battery or something to wipe out the memory. any other suggestions? i’m stuck in a loop installing the latest update. I even tried putting a different hdd in but it won’t take it, it just turns off. i also tried the memory stick but nothing happened. I just had it fixed and it broke again that’s the worst bit

this is usually caused by a firmware error so just try to reinstall the firmware, also it could be just a problem with the ps3’s ram caching data the way i fix it is just turn it off by the mains n then bk on tht seems to solve it weird thing is it only does it on my 60gb version :S

its a sign that your bluray has crap on the lens you need to open it up and clean it but be warned they are fiddly as so follow a step by step on here by the book ! lol we had to completely replace my m8s got one on ebay.
